Question: What is the Best way to Develop a Prototype in the Health & Beauty Field?

What is the development process to go from idea to finished product?

Answer:

For a physical product such as a razor, toothbrush, nose hair trimmer, or electric razor you can start with a 3D printed prototype of your idea.

Ideally you already have a 3D model on the computer for your product, however you could also hire a student, learn the programs yourself, or outsource it on Odesk.

This 3D printed model will have the exact size, fit, and feel or your final product.  Plus 3D printings are cheap – the best way to start.

If you need a functioning prototype and are prepared to spend a bit more, you should approach possible manufactures for samples.  Having a 3D print in hand and some complete specifications will simplify the process.

For a liquid or consumable product, you should likely work with the factory right away for samples and packaging design.  Be sure to have a good description of ingredients and results you want.

Finding the right factory is definitely the sweet spot in starting a product business – nothing beats knowing people and boots on the ground.
